About Friends of the Animals
Friends of the Animals envisions a day when animals will not suffer because of human abuse, neglect, or ignorance, and that every pet born will be assured a good home and care all its natural life. The non-profit organization was incorporated in 2005 by a group of committed women in the community whose dream is to save the lives of innocent dogs, cats, puppies and kittens by promoting responsible pet ownership, providing low-cost spay / neuter services and promoting the adoption of homeless pets.
In 2007, the organization was successful in gathering 4,000 signatures to petition Iredell County North Carolina Commissioners to improve conditions at the County Animal Control Shelter including converting from gas chamber euthanasia to the more humane lethal injection method.
A committed Board of Directors is today is leading the charge to build a state-of-the-art pet education and adoption center that will serve the Lake Norman region of North Carolina. Impacting nine Counties – Mecklenburg, Iredell, Cabarrus, Rowan, Davie, Yadkin, Wilkes, Alexander, Catawba, and Lincoln, the center will work with local rescue groups, humane societies and animal control agencies to save homeless pets through adoptions and help facilitate a generational shift in attitudes through educational programming.
